What Rabbits Eat
A rabbit's tummy works best on lots of fibre. The right food keeps their teeth and gut healthy.
Hay is number one
Most of a rabbit's diet should be fresh hay or grass, and they should always have as much as they want. Chewing hay wears their teeth down.
Fresh leafy greens
Give a handful of washed greens every day, like romaine lettuce, herbs, or spring greens. Add new foods slowly, one at a time.
A small amount of pellets
Good rabbit pellets give extra vitamins, but only a small portion each day. Too many pellets means less hay is eaten.
Carrots are a treat
Carrots are sugary, so they are a treat and not a main meal. Fruit is the same — just a small piece now and then.
Never feed these
Chocolate, avocado, onions, garlic, rhubarb and iceberg lettuce are not safe for rabbits. Ask a grown-up if you are unsure about a food.
🏡 Always ask a grown-up and a vet if you're unsure about caring for a pet.
