A Happy Hamster Home
In the wild, hamsters dig long burrows and travel far. A good home lets them copy that.
Big space
Pick the largest cage or tank you can. Small starter cages do not give hamsters enough space to run and explore.
Deep bedding
Give lots of deep, safe bedding so your hamster can dig tunnels. Use paper-based or aspen bedding, not fluffy "cotton wool" type bedding.
A proper wheel
The wheel must be big enough that your hamster's back stays flat when running, and it must have a solid running surface.
Hides and chews
Add little houses, tubes and cardboard to hide in and gnaw. Hamster teeth never stop growing.
Cleaning
Remove the toilet corner every few days and clean the cage out regularly, keeping some old bedding so it still smells like home.
