A Happy Bird Home
Birds are made to fly, so the bigger the cage the better, plus time out of the cage every day.
A roomy cage
Choose the largest cage you can with bars close enough together that your bird cannot get stuck. Wide cages are better than tall ones because birds fly sideways.
Perches and toys
Give perches of different thicknesses, plus bells, ladders and safe chew toys. Rotate toys to keep things fresh.
Flying time
Let your bird fly in a safe room every day with windows and doors closed, and fans and hot things off.
Light and quiet
Birds need daylight and a good night's sleep, so cover the cage at night if a grown-up says it's okay. Keep it out of draughts.
Air safety
Fumes from non-stick pans, candles, air fresheners and smoke can seriously harm birds. Keep them away from the kitchen.
🏡 Always ask a grown-up and a vet if you're unsure about caring for a pet.
