Baby Birds

Baby birds are called chicks. They hatch out of eggs, and many of them depend on their parents for food.

Safe in the nest

Many baby birds, like songbirds, hatch with few or no feathers and stay in the nest while their parents bring food.

Hungry chicks

Chicks open their beaks wide and cheep when a parent comes back with food. Many parents feed them again and again all day.

Learning to fly

As feathers grow in, chicks flap their wings and practise. Soon they leave the nest.
